Personal Statement
Prof. Derin K. Ologbenla, Ph.D., LL. B, B.L. is a professor of Political Science at the University of Lagos. He had his secondary and university Education in the United Kingdom where he obtained his B.A (HONS) Sociology from city of Birmingham Polytechnic (Now city of Birmingham University), Master of social Science (M. Soc. Sc). (Political Science), University of Birmingham, UK. He joined University of Lagos in 1982 as Assistant Lecturer and obtained his Ph.D. in political Science from University of Lagos in 1992. He rose through the ranks to become a professor in 2016. He study Law at University of Lagos and attended the Nigerian Law School between 2001 and 2002 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2003. He is an Advocate and a solicitor to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Prof. Ologbenla has consulted for the Federal Government and for some states, He was one-time secretary to the NRC Caretaker Committee in Lagos State (1992/1993). He has been on Ad hoc Assignments for the Independent National Elections Commissions (INEC0 conducting elections since 1993
Prof. Ologbenla has Published two books and over 65 publications in Local & International Journals as well as chapters in Books. A member of the International Political Science Association, Africa & Nigeria Political Science Association, Life Member of Nigeria Institute of International Affairs, Fellow of Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria.
