Welcome to Department of Political Science
The Department of Political Science is one of the pioneer Departments in the Faculty of Social Sciences. Department has come a long way in being part of success story of University of Lagos as a Centre of excellence. Since its establishment as a Unit in the University in 1962 and transited to a full Department in 1967/68 academic, session, it has continued to remain a leading in teaching and research in Political Science and its component fields of International Relations, Public Administration, Political Theory, and Comparative Politics.
The Department boasts of distinguished academics across the Professorial and Non-Professorial cadres who are renowned for their research, activism and contributions to knowledge. As a demonstration of the Department’s pedigree in research, the reputable UNILAG OF POLITICS along other seminal publications including Fifty Years of Nationhood? State, Society and Politics in Nigeria (1960-2010) are published by the Department. In addition, the Department offers different programmes at Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Bachelor degree in Public Administration, M.Sc. degree in Political Science, Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master in Research and Public Policy (MRPP), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Political Science. We welcome prospective students into these programmes and promise that it will be a deeply rewarding experience as we advance the frontiers of Political Science as the Master Science.
